About The San Jose Nutcracker

The San Jose Nutcracker is a two-act classical ballet production suitable for the whole family. Children of all ages are welcome. The production will last about two hours and have one intermission.

Our story begins at a festive holiday party hosted by young Clara, her brother Fritz, and their family in San Jose at the turn of the last century. Meet fascinating Uncle Nikola and his electric gifts, including electric lighting for the home, an arc lamp, and a large electric coil that rivals the power of lightning itself. Marvel at a replica of the historic San Jose Light Tower as it magically grows to rise above the streets of San Jose. Cheer on adorable mice and toy soldiers who compete to win a magic crown. Be enchanted by a winter wonderland presided over by the Queen of Snow as Clara and the Nutcracker Prince begin a fantastic journey.

In the second act, Clara and The Nutcracker Prince travel to "The Valley of Hearts Delight," where they meet The Sugarplum Fairy as well as characters inspired by Santa Clara Valley during the orchard era. Be entertained by a dancing Walnut, marvel at lightning fast Quicksilver, and delight in stunning Spanish Bougainvillea. Be mesmerized by the dance of the Diamond Back Rattlesnake and enchanted by fluttering Orchard Blossoms. Be swept away by a waltz of the flowers led by a dazzling California Poppy. And let the enchanting Sugarplum Fairy dance through your head for nights to come.

Featuring The New Ballet Studio Company, students from The New Ballet School, and professional Guest Artists, The San Jose Nutcracker will feature the traditional score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky performed by the New Ballet Orchestra conducted by Thomas Shoebotham.
